In Avon Schools, our ultimate goal is to help students attain the academic growth and success they need to thrive. However, to enable students to grow, we also have to prioritize their social and emotional wellbeing. Thanks to the support of the Avon-Washington Township Community and the passage of our operating referendum, we have been able to add highly qualified school counselors and social workers to the team. Since 2018, we averaged 1 counselor to 500 students. Today, the span of care has improved to 320 students per counselor/social worker. It's National School Counseling Week. In honor of the occasion, Dr. Wyndham sits down for a conversation with three members of our School Counseling team: School Counseling and Mental Wellness Coordinator Krista Fay, Pine Tree Elementary School Counselor Amber Wetzel, and Avon High School Director of School Counseling Candace Gadomski-Emmert. From helping open ketchup packets in kindergarten lunch to helping seniors fill their final academic requirements before graduation — and everything in between — our School Counselors and Social Workers are at the heart of our mission to help all students succeed.
