Orioles In-The-Know

Helping Our Diverse Learners Succeed

Episode Summary

Back in February, the Avon Board of School Trustees heard a presentation about how Avon Schools supports diverse learners. It was such a great presentation that Dr. Wyndham wanted podcast listeners to be able to enjoy it, too. Dr. Wyndham has a dynamic conversation about how we support two important groups of students with Data & Acceleration Coordinator Sarah Pies and Multilingual Coordinator Angela Rasor. (Susie Hurt, Director of Special Education, wasn't able to join, but we'll feature her on a later episode.) Find out how we're using data to drive instruction across the corporation, how our high ability program is meeting the needs of students who are learning above their grade level, and how we're remaining engaged with our rapidly growing number of multilingual students so they can succeed in our rigorous curriculum while mastering English. You'll hear about how Avon Schools relies on regular feedback from parents/guardians, students, and educators to continue improving our programs, making them as effective as possible for all students. Finally, you'll get to listen in on a little bit of the current conversation about how we're working to identify multilingual students who demonstrate high ability so we can accelerate their learning too.
