People are often surprised to hear that nearly 50% of Avon Community School Corporation's students qualify for free and reduced lunch. About a decade ago, knowing that students were struggling to learn with empty bellies, a small group of Avon teachers started what has grown into the Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry. The Pantry has continued to grow and thrive thrive — they now serve more than 100 families a week — due to the leadership of Executive Director Kristi Kerr and the commitment of volunteers like Maple Elementary School 3rd Grade Teacher Laura Davies. Listen in as Dr. Wyndham talks with Kristi and Laura about the Pantry's origins, their plans for the future, and the work they do to ensure no child has to come to school hungry in Avon.
